Information for Food Pantry Volunteers
The PH-ACS Food Pantry depends upon a group of dedicated volunteers under the supervision of part-time volunteer coordinators.

What do Food Pantry Volunteers do?
For one half hour before the Food Pantry opens, we stock shelves with the food that is available for that day.

For the next two hours we serve clients by checking them in and serving them, or by registering first-time visitors, and then serving them. From noon to 1 p.m., volunteers have lunch and prepare for service from 1 to
2 p.m. After the pantry closes, we put away perishable food and clean up the pantry.

How many hours a week is a Food Pantry Shift?
We ask volunteers to commit up to one five-hour shift a week, Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. We also encourage volunteers to team up. Often a five-hour shift is too lengthy for one volunteer to handle comfortably, so we encourage two individuals to work together to cover one full shift. (For example, one individual will volunteer from 9:30 a.m. until noon, and the other will volunteer from noon to 2:30 p.m. to cover the full shift.)

Who can be a volunteer?
We welcome volunteers who are 16 years old and older. Having a good sense of humor, an appreciation for serving all kinds of people with care and compassion, and a dash of patience can make volunteering at the food pantry a lot of fun.

Closed-toed shoes must be worn while on duty, and volunteers should not volunteer when they are sick.
